about

Julie Pflanzer was raised in a household surrounded by art and music, she was encouraged to draw and create things at an early age. As a young adult she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Recreation Therapy from Central Michigan University with honors, and then practiced in mental health for several years. After a while she became a full time stay-at-home mom. Upon rediscovering the magic of art, Julie passionately began pursuing her artistic endeavors. Julie is an occasional student at the  Flint Institute of Arts and supplements her education by experimentations,  avidly reading art resources, by conferring with other artists and constantly drawing, sketching and painting.

Julie recently was awarded First place in the adult competition for Michigan Parenting Awareness Poster contest for 2010.  Julie also has displayed pieces of art at financial institutions from Frankfort, MI, to medical offices in Sarasota FL, and locally at the Child Advocacy Center in Lapeer MI and the Head Shop Salon in Lapeer, MI.

Pieces of her works are enjoyed in private collections of prominent individuals such as judges, doctors, engineers, and various business professionals. You too can join this illustrious group! Or even if you don't want to be part of the group you can still enjoy a piece of her work just by purchasing one.

Often she is found enjoying moments just observing light and shadows, people, objects and places, then finds herself needing to draw or sketch what is seen. "It's easy to become lost when creating a painting," she says, "I often find myself wondering where the time went.” She creates her paintings pulling from her own thoughts, observations, photographs and sketches. Depending on the outcome desired she uses a variety of mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolors, pastels, charcoal and colored pencils. All pieces are created with professional and archival quality products and material.
