About the artist

Being raised in a household surrounded by art and music, Julie was encouraged to draw and create things at an early age.   As a young adult she earned a degree in Recreation Therapy from Central Michigan University with honors, then practiced in mental health for several years.  As time went on, after having a few children, she became a full time stay-at-home mom.  Upon rediscovering the magic of art, Julie passionately began pursuing her artistic endeavors.  Having taken a few classes at the Flint Institute of Arts her education is primarily self taught by avidly reading art resources and by conferring with other artists and just playing around.  Currently Julie reside in the state of Michigan (US) with her husband  and children.

Often she is found  enjoying moments just observing light and shadows, people, objects and places and finds herself needing to draw or sketch what is seen.  "It's easy to become lost when creating a painting," she says, "I'm often finding myself wondering where the time went. "

Her paintings are primarily created by observations, photographs she has taken and sketches.  She finds a variety of different options during the brain storming process often coming up with multiple scenarios. After her final selection she begins creating paintings using either oil, acrylic, pastels or watercolors depending on the desired outcome.
